Le développement du volleyball africain progresse activement, sous l’impulsion de la Confédération africaine de volleyball (CAVB) et de sa présidente, Bouchra Hajij. Parmi les initiatives clés figure l’organisation du tournois de développement pour les jeunes, comme le récent Championnat de beach-volley U18 en Gambie, afin de découvrir et de former de jeunes talents.
Ces efforts visent à améliorer la gouvernance, à promouvoir le sport dans les 54 nations africaines et à offrir aux athlètes africains la possibilité de participer à des événements mondiaux comme les Jeux olympiques de la jeunesse.
En 2025, la CAVB a organisé avec succès deux championnats de clubs, cinq compétitions par catégorie d’âge en beach-volley et en salle, un championnat senior de beach-volley et une coupe de développement, dans le but d’assurer une présence significative de l’Afrique dans les compétitions mondiales.
1. Club Championships; Men and Women – Two successful club championships were held. The 2025 Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship, a major continental tournament for top women’s clubs, was held in Abuja, Nigeria, from April 1 to April 14, 2025. The event concluded with Zamalek (Egypt) as the winner, Ahlia (Egypt) as the runner-up, and Kenya Pipeline (Kenya) taking third place. This tournament gave a new breathing space to Nigeria with a spectacular organization.Misrata in Libya, organized a fruitful Men’s African Volleyball Club Championship 2025 featuring 24 of the continent’s top clubs competing for the title. The event was the 46th edition of the championship and served as a qualification for next year’s FIVB World Championship. The Libyan hosts, Swehly Sports Club, defeated Tunisia’s Esperance Sportive de Tunis in the final to claim their first-ever African title.
2. Continental Beach Volleyball Championship; Men and Women – The beautiful beach resort of Martil hosted the 2025 continental senior beach volleyball championship from June 23-30, 2025, serving as a qualifier for the FIVB 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championship. The event saw record participation with a total of 19 teams drawn from 13 countries took part in the women’s competition while the men’s tournament featured 25 pairs from 15 nations.
3. U21 Beach Volleyball Championship; Men and Women – The CAVB U21 Beach Volleyball Continental Championship 2025 was held at Martil Beach, Tetouan, Morocco, from June 25-29, 2025. The event served as a qualification for the FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 World Championships in Mexico. In the women’s competition, Mozambique took gold, with Namibia finishing third, and Kenya securing the fourth spot. For the men’s competition, Morocco won the men’s title, and Namibia secured third place in their final match.
hosting the U18 continental cup. With a total of 16 teams drawn from 11 countries in the boys’ competition while the girls’ tournament also featured 16 pairs from 11 nations discovered budding talents and opened a new hall of beach volleyball superstars that are ready to become global beaters.
5. CAVB U18 Beach Volleyball Youth Development Cup – To wrapped up this fantastic beach volleyball calendar, CAVB U18 Beach Volleyball Youth Development Cup, was hosted in Banjul from September 2–7, 2025, marking a fundamental moment for youth and sport development in Africa, particularly beach volleyball. More than just a tournament, the Youth Development Cup played a strategic role in Africa’s preparations for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Dakar, Senegal. It aligns with the CAVB’s broader objective to ensure strong African representation at global competitions. Funded by Olympic Solidarity, the tournament promoted Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect, while supporting long-term sports development in Africa.
6. U16 boys and girls Nation’s Cup – An exciting U16 Nation’s championship was held in Tunisia to promote a platform for young African talents. The competition that featured young unsung athletes, added a momentous activity in the CAVB’s aspiration for more age group competitions.
7. 2025 CAVB Women’s U20 African Nations Championship – The championship held in Yaounde, Cameroon from 2 to 12 August attracted Seven African Nations with Kenya winning the title for the first time in their history.
8. 2025 CAVB Men’s U20 African Nations Championship – The Men competition was organized in Cairo, Egypt held from September 10 to 20 2025, the host Egypt won the title.
The sport’s universal appeal is expanding across the continent, with increasing development in competition and grassroots.
With more African countries featuring in the FIVB World Championships, it is just a matter of time before Africa will start climbing on the podium.
Efforts are underway to ensure volleyball is played and supported in all 54 African countries, from grassroots to professional levels.
